Shoulder tattoo design in Maori style

Hi,

Recently I created two new tattoo designs for my webshop. The first tattoo is a Kirituhi Maori style shoulder design. All my tattoos are hand-drawn on A3 paper with a B2 pencil. First I sketch the basic shape of the shoulder and upper arm and then add some koru (fern) curves that flow nicely through the design. Once I'm satisfied with the overall look, I start filling in the patterns between the korus with triangles, lines, spearheads and other repetitive shapes. Below are a few pictures of the tattoo design in progress

For my Youtube channel I created a special video, so you can see the total design from start to finish:

The final high resolution is available on my website, but can also be purchased here on my blog. Once I receive your payment, you will get 2 high quality .jpg files. The first one is the full design including gradients, the second is the linedrawing or stencil for your tattoo artist, so he can easily transfer the outlines of the design to your skin with thermal paper.

Samoan Maori shoulder tattoo design

Hi,

Here's the 3rd design of my latest sketches in a Samoan inspired tattoo set. This design has some influences from the Maori style, but is mainly filled with Samoan patterns.

I started with a pencil and roughly sketched the outer lines, then traced some tribal patterns:

For these symmetrical Samoan designs it's always a bit of a surprise how the final design will look. I only draw half the design and then mirror it in Photoshop. This seems easy, but it quity tricky to design the patterns in such a way that it doesn't have an obvious vertical line in the center.

Here's a picture of half the design finished:

You can order the finished high resolution design right now, by simply clicking the "Buy now" button. Once I receive your payment, you'll receive an e-mail with a high resolution image + a linedrawing/stencil for your tattoo artist.

Samoan inspired shoulder tattoo design

Hi,

I get a lot of request from people that are looking for a Samoan-inspired design, similar to the Sonny Bill Williams tattoo sleeve.
So I decided to design a set of intricate shoulder tatoo pieces with a lot of small details in a graphic style.
You can find all 3 designs in this set here.

The original design of SBW looks like this:

First I made a basic pencil sketch with a height of 30 cm (12 inches) and added some detailed Samoan inspired patterns. Then a few swirls of Maori koru and traced the lines with a marker:

The final design has a nice upper part, I added some other shapes on top to make it look more complex. You can order the high resolution image of this design, by simply clicking the "buy now" below. You get the high quality files sent by e-mail once I receive your payment.

New maori tattoo gallery optimized for Ipad and Iphone

Hi,

I recently bought an Apple Ipad2 and use it mainly for shooting pictures and recording movies of the design process. I can easily add these photos to my twitter messages (@storm3d) and upload the movies to Youtube.com in a few clicks. It's also very usefull for quickly browsing the web...

There's only one big downside to Apple products, and that's the fact that Apple doesn't support the Adobe Flash plugin. For my website galleries, I use(d) the "simpleviewer" plugin, that creates a really nice and simple Flash gallery with a thumbnail and a larger image next or above it.

Now I use my Ipad, I see that a lot of mobile visitors cannot see the designs in my gallery, so I had to make changes to it.

My website design is based on the principles of the "Save the Pixel" e-book by Ben Hunt, which states that the design should be as simple as possible and every pixel should contribute to the main goal of the website.

Keeping this in mind, I redesigned the tattoo galleries. Here's a picture of the 'before' gallery:

flash gallery with maori tattoos for sale designer artistThe red marked area is the flash movie containing the maori tattoo gallery.

People could scroll through the images and see the number and price of the design.

Before ordering it, customers had to select the correct tattoo nr. from the dropdown list and hit the "Buy Now" button.

People often selected the wrong tattoo and bought the piece they didn't want.

To get rid of this problem I decided to implement the Lightbox plugin/script to my gallery instead of the simpleviewer movie.
One other advantage was that I could add the size and price of the design in the header/description and even add a Paypal button, so it became impossible to order the wrong tatoo design.

The new gallery is now looking like this, with the lightbox frame popping up:

So if you have an Ipad, Ipod or Iphone, please check it out and let me know if there's anything I can change to improve it.

Steampunk Styles Punk Modern Devices and Gadgets with Victorian Vogue

As a sub-genre of science fiction and fantasy, steampunk has clattered and ground its way into current technological designs. Incorporating the steam-driven and clockwork-powered inventions of the late 19th century into current gadgets and devices, artists and designers are using steampunk styles to give modern technological tools an old-world feel.

Steampunk Flash Drives/USB Drives

Also known as thumb drives, these nifty mass storage devices are pocket-sized and portable. Though the purpose of the device is to perform a modern function; the transportation of information, there’s no reason why the design of the USB shouldn’t look like it has teleported from an alternate reality. Victorian-era design elements that are used in steampunk designs include clockwork parts and metals such as copper or bronze.

Above: 16GB Mechanical Memory Key from Artype, using clockwork parts from six pocket watches. When in use, the drive glows green from below, giving the parts a sense of movement.

Above: 16GB Copper and Patina Steampunk Flash Drive from cerriousdesign. The three gears move when the drive is connected.

Steampunk Computer Mouse

A computer mouse is typically made with modern materials such as plastic and rubber. By using Victorian-era elements of woods and metals, these designers have transformed this computer device to look like a 19th century antique.

Above: The Bug, Steampunk Computer Mouse created by Jake Hildebrandt, for his steampunk computer The Telecalculograph.

Above: Steampunk mouse from Modding Russia. Intricate designs on the metal and a rope casing for the cord create a truly authentic feel for this piece.

Steampunk iPods

Above: Steampunk iPod Case by Neal Brigdens, using copper, brass and oak wood. Created using jeweler’s techniques, this sturdy case is likely to outlive the iPod it holds.

Above: Doctor Grymm’s Eye-Pod Victrola from DrGrymmLaboratories.net. Fully functining iPod cased in a steampunk, horror hybrid casing.

Steampunk Laptops and Computers

Above: Hewlett Packard ZT1000 laptop casing by Datamancer. The laptop is turned on and off with an antique clock-winding key and boasts clawed feet and antique-styled copper keyboard and mouse.

Above: Dell 1907FP Flat Panel Monitor and keyboard steampunk mod by The Steampunk Workshop. The screen uses chime levers from a grandfather clock as screen controls.

Above: The Nagy Magical-Movable-Type-Pixello-Dynamotronic Computational Engine by Datamancer. This elaborate design uses a typewriter, clock and a carved wooden stand complete with lamps to create steampunk style.

Maori Samoan tattoo design for the shoulder

Hi,

As mentioned yesterday, I worked on a new flash design that you can order on this blog. I just finished it today and it's a combination of a Maori inspired tribal with some Samoan elements/shapes added to it.
On a rainy afternoon (one of the many in Holland ;)) I just started sketching when watching television, so not really paying attention to what I was drawing, just doodling around.
To my surprise it really just came out of my hands.

Here's the sketch I'm talking about:

quick tattoo sketch design maori samoan styleThis was a good quick tattoo sketch to start a final design from. So I set up my work table, took my pencil box and redrew the design on a sheet of A3 paper.

I started with the swirl of spearheads, because that is the main theme in this tatoo.
Then I added the koru shape below the shoulder which is overlapped a little to create a depth/dimension.
I really enjoy to create flowing lines, with a flawless curve.
Finally I added the right side of the tattoo and made some Samoan inspired patterns with triangles, fish shapes and overlapping strokes.

Once the sketch was finished I traced it with a black marker and scanned it.
Finally I added the shading of the different areas and retouched some small blemishes and spots in Photoshop.

Here's the final shoulder tattoo.

The original size is 29 x 21,5 cm (11 x 8,5 inches), but it can be scaled to adjust it to your arm/shoulder.

Price for this design is 41,65 euro (58 US dollar)

If you wish to order it, simply press the "Buy now" button and you will be redirected to the Paypal site for the payment.

Kirituhi forearm tattoo design

Hi!

Here's a forearm tattoo design in Kirituhi style, it's a custom design for a customer from the USA.
He wanted an original Maori piece on his left forearm and a Kirituhi design on his other forearm.
The size of this tattoo sketch is 25 cm long and approx. 12 cm wide, narrowing down to 6 cm at the wrist.

First I started to draw the outline of the design and began filling the shape with flowing lines, koru curves and sharp edges.

I sent it to the customer to check if I was heading in the right direction. He really liked the first preview, so I could start on the fill with some tribal patterns.

Here are two pictures of the sketch, the outlines, the total sketch and finally the completed design.

Printable shoulder tattoo designs in Maori Kiri tuhi style

Hi,

In my webshop I sell high resolution printable tattoo designs.
Once a tattoo image is ordered, I send a high res image to the customer and he/she can print it or send it to his/her tattoo artist. All designs are scanned at 300 dpi resolution and can be scaled to any size you wish.

The tatoos I make are all handdrawn on A3 size printing paper. I start with a rough outline of the design with a pencil and add some Kirituhi ferns and shapes. Along the process the patterns are added, lines, triangles, dots, and so on.

When the pencil design is completed, I trace the tatoo with a black fibre tip marker and erase all pencil lines. The drawing is scanned in high resolution and optimized, erasing dust, little smudges etc.

I wanted to highlight one of the tatoos from my portfolio, so you can see how a full size design looks. The design is nr 140 in my shoulder gallery. The highlighted area is also shown at 100% (click the image for real-size) and you see the linedrawing.

Finished shoulder piece

Hi!

Here's the finished design of the shoulder tattoo I was working on last week.

shoulder sketch mauri tats

Between all the large custom sketches, I worked on a small and simple tat2 design. It's a symmetrical design with a tribal sun and maori ferns in it.

At the moment I have two more projects running. One is a half sleeve tattoo in the style of Sonny Bill Williams as I mentioned a few days ago. This one is in progress and some pictures will be posted soon.
The second is a sketch based on multiple of my designs and the fills are a bit like Robbie Williams maori tattoo design. It's a large design and here's a first impression.

I will get back in a few days, hopefully with some finished tattoos or with adjusted sketches and photos.

In the future I will try to post a small video on my blog where you can see me drawing and designing a maori tattoo.
For some suggestions or things you wish to see or learn in this video, please contact me.

Just let me know!

I recently discovered another blog of a great tattoo designer, Jun-San from Brazil. His website/blog is lifeunderzen.com.
Really simple, but great and creative designs, drawn on the skin and the sharpest lines I have ever seen.
Check his blog and be amazed!
